The Lost City

This page follows the various phases of the mythical Lost City area at Thorpe Park, from 2001 - 2005.

Phase 2 (Colossus) is covered in greater detail in the relevant section.

Hold your mouse over a picture for a description.

Work started with the removal of the Enterprise for refurbishment and demolition of Dare Devil Drivers.

Construction continues in the new Lost City with Vortex foundations complete, Zodiac installed and the creation and theming of a new walkway down in to the area which will provide good views of Zodiac when in operation.

The Vortex queue has been erected

Only the ride structure remains to be installed

Theming to be added to the ride structure

First two pics show the area a few weeks before opening. Vortex failed to open with the park, despite being advertised which caused a fair bit of controversy with some parties, especially Watchdog! :)

Preparing the foundation for Eclipse

Early construction of the Fabbri duo. Was great how they kept the majority of vegetation to create two wonderful 'jungle' type queue lines. They did the same for Rush too.

The transfers make it look a lot better than shown here

October 2003 meant the deconstruction of the classic Calgary Stampede to make way for the mighty warrior from Chessington; Samurai. Above are two pics taken just before park opening.

Phase 5 - Rush - March 2005
22nd

Looks like Eclipse's signage will be used again

Rush was the first S&S Screamin' Swing outside America, and we got a larger version for higher throughputs.

A chunky addition to the Lost City

Thorpe Park really does have the finest collection of flat rides in the UK, possibly Europe?
